Thinning hair loss is a condition that is prevalent to many men and women across the world. It is a condition that normally hereditary or passed on from generation to generation. More than 60 million Americans suffer from the condition of thinning hair loss. Although most commonly associated with men, the hair loss in women is also widely known. Even though statistics show that more than half of men over the age of 50 suffer from hair loss or baldness, but the smaller percentage of baldness in women gives a great emotional effects for generally women.
Women inherit the tendency to lose their hair (a condition called androgenetic alopecia) just as frequently as men do. But instead of receding at the forehead or the crown, a woman’s hair usually thins out evenly all over her head. This may be less noticeable at first, since there are no bald patches.
Thinning hair loss among men is generally causec by DHT or dihydrotestosterone. It is a by-product of testosterone in men. DHT plays a vital role in the development of a male’s main sex characteristics particularly during the embryonic stage of life. DHT also helps in the development of a male’s secondary sexual characteristics during the puberty stage and later years of life.
Thinning hair loss can actually be caused by many factors including genetics, diseases, poor nutrition, stress and even medications, but by far the most common cause of hair loss in men and women is hereditary male and female pattern baldness.
Thinning hair can also be cause by alopecia areata which is a recurrent disease that can be determined upon the formation of oval or round patches seen on the scalp eyebrows, beard area or any hair bearing part of the body. Hair that is lost from alopecia areata normally grows back after six months or as long as a year depending on the severity of the condition.
